The Artwe-Areye Men's Work Team provides a 26-week work readiness program for Arrernte Job Seekers in Alice Springs. The team is supported by a group of senior male elders acting as Cultural Advisors and a Supervisor/ Mentor who provides on-the-job training.
The workers undertake certified training courses and have access to one-on-one literacy and numeracy support in the workplace. The elders arrange cultural activities including artefact making and camps-on-country, to boost confidence through supporting cultural identity.
The team also participates in mental health awareness activities in collaboration with the Mental Health Association of Central Australia, and drug and alcohol counselling through the Alcohol and Other Drugs Service.
At the end of the 26-week program, workers are placed in jobs or work experience positions.
