Welcoming Friends from Across the Seas.

At Akeyulerre Healing Centre, we get a lot of visitors, including many who have travelled a long way to see us.

We were recently visited by Professor John Watt, from the Torres Strait, as Batchelor Institute visited Akeyulerre Healing Centre for a Welcome to Country ceremony. As part of their Master Class Series, Batchelor Institute has brought together students from all over Australia, including the Torres Strait, for a week of learning and cultural exchange. We’re always happy to see familiar faces and connect with families across this great land. For more information on Welcome to Country and smoking ceremonies, feel free to reach out and say hi!

Akeyulerre also recently had visitors from Melbourne & Taiwan. We catered a delicious gluten and dairy-free afternoon tea, followed by a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony by our custodians. They enjoyed a tour of our bush medicine lab, and some even experienced a traditional healing with our Ngankere. It was a truly wonderful afternoon of cultural exchange.

All three have been valued team members at Akeyulerre for several years and are now taking the next step by undertaking this qualification to deepen their knowledge and continue growing within Akeyulerre. CEO, Marli Banks is excited to see them embrace the traineeship pathway and is proud to support their journey of local growth and learning. These new traineeships represent more than just formal qualifications, they embody the Akeyulerre way – “Our Way”, where Arrernte people lead, guided by the wisdom of Elders, and communities are strengthened through culture and knowledge.
